Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall 2003

Fairhope began in 1894, on the east side of Mobile Bay, as a single-tax colony by followers of the economist Henry George and the town's unique tax structure remained until 1937. Many things Fairhope can offer is their many artistic craft shops, the Grand Hotel a fabulous Southern resort where the Grand Festival of Art on the lagoon takes place in October, and the Arts and Crafts Festival is held in March every third weekend. The local area also offers a captivating beauty of flowers all around the city, great dining, a minimum of 3 golf courses, and great Christmas lights display during the winter time. During the spring, Fairhope offers the largest one-day regatta in the country on Mobile Bay on the 3rd weekend in April. Besides all of these fantastic places to visit, you can visit Fairhope's Municipal Pier, which extends a quarter of a mile into the bay, making a wonderful scenic view of the area. Next to Fairhope's pier you can visit their bayfront park and beachland. Other events to see are the 4th of July fireworks and Mobile Bay's phenomenonal event "Jubilee." During Jubilee, masses of seafood in a dazed condition appear at the edge of the beach, where people flock to the beach to harvest this seafood craze. |
