Winter/Spring/Summer/Fall 2003  "St. Paul, MN"    St. Paul, Minnesota      St. Paul and Minneapolis, most commonly called the Twin Cities. Capital to Minnesota, St. Paul is the older of the two cities and has obtained much of its architectural heritage, with its design to blend with the city's Victorian and art deco architecture. Founded in the 1840s by a French Canadian trader named Pierre "Pig's Eye" Parrant who established Pig's Eye, the name St. Paul had before it was renamed. Since this is the capital of the state everyone should see Minnesota's State Capitol, the City Hall, and the Ramsey County Courthouse featuring Memorial Hall. Homes and places to notice are the Alexander Ramsey House, home to the 1st govenor, the James J. Hill House, the Governor's Mansion, and Mt. Zion Temple, the oldest Jewish congregation in Minnesota. Also see the parks and other great sites, the city offers like, Rice Park, the Landmark Center, the Town Square holding a restored antique carousel, St. Paul Public Library, the Ordway Music theater, home to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Como Park has a zoo and conservatory, and one of the largest churches in the country called the Cathedral of St. Paul. Visit some of St. Paul's museums such as the Minnesota Museum of American Art, the Schubert Club Musical Instrument Museum, and the Science Museum of Minnesota and McKnightOmnitheater. Stop by the World Trade Center for shopping, Gallivan's for live music, the St. Paul's Winter Carnival held on the last Friday in January, or the Blue Sallon for some blues.  Alexander Ramsey House  265 S.
